The following list outlines the priority ranking system. The Cardinal Apartments is currently only renting to 1 thru 6 priorities.
The eligibility criteria listed below is intended for the affiliate rate program only and is not intended for the Below Market Rate (BMR) Program. For information regarding the BMR program and eligibility guidelines, please click here.

1st Priority
- Redwood City Campus Staff employed by Stanford University
2nd Priority – Other Staff employed by Stanford University including the following:
- Main Campus Staff employed by Stanford University
- Staff employed by SLAC
- Academic Postdoctoral Scholars employed by Stanford University
- Retired Faculty on Recalled Duty
- Public Safety Officers employed by Stanford University
- N11 and N99 Staff
3rd Priority – Faculty including the following:
- Tenure and Non-Tenure Line Professors
- Senior Fellow Members of the Academic Council at Special Policy Centers and Institutes
- Senior Fellows at the Hoover Institution
- University Medical Line (UML) Professors
- Szego Professors
- Acting, Adjunct, Consulting, and Visiting Professors
4th Priority – Clinician Educator (CE) Professors
5th Priority – Stanford Health Care Employees, Medical Residents, and Fellows
6th Priority – Other Visiting Academics (includes Fellow, Researcher, Scholar, as well as visitor to the Center of Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences – CASBS)
* Qualifying Employment: must be employed at least 30 hours per week (75% FTE) at or above the minimum wage during the entire lease term. Must be fully paid and employed by Stanford University or Stanford Health Care. Lease term cannot exceed duration of Qualifying Employment.
The Affiliate also must occupy and maintain the Premises as his or her own principal place of residence. At any time during Resident(s)’ tenancy, Resident(s) shall provide Landlord with satisfactory evidence that the Affiliate occupies the Premises as his or her own principal place of residence. Failure of the Affiliate to use the Premises and have them listed as his or her own principal place of residence as verified in the HR and Payroll database shall be a material breach of the Lease by Resident(s) and grounds for termination of the tenancy by Landlord for cause.
